ALUCA NSW SUB-GROUP

2017 is well under way with our first event on “Cancer-the patient clinical perspective” on Thursday April 13. This first session is in the same vein as our Dr Antony Lau session last year on heart attack.  Dr Ranjana Srivasyava will talk to us on a vital topic and cover:

  • Patient/Clinician perspective- understanding the experiences; latest treatments/technology
  • Post cancer fatigue; chemotherapy fog;side effects from treatment;
  • Managing terminal illness and how we can engage the customer and clinician more positively
  • What should our considerations be at claim time regarding the customer experience
  • What value add services would be helpful
  • Customer experience- Is there something they wished they had or were covered for
  • Consideration from an underwriting perspective

For more information on this wonderful and first time speaker to our Industry see http://ranjanasrivastava.com.  Register now as we had standing room only for Dr Lau’s session.

We are looking at providing  a follow up event as a Part B to this session that will focus more on Industry trends and what we see specific to  claims and underwriting. Dr Bill Monday will present in collaboration with the ALUCA medical group.

In addition to this we are exploring  holding an Emerging Leaders dinner which would be a nice lead into the NSW Professional Development Day which will be held in Sydney at Doltone house on October 17th. The joint committee for the Professional Development Day comprises members from both the NSW ALUCA group and CMG group. They are working extra hard to bring this day together, building on the success of last year.

A huge thank you to some key ALUCA NSW committee members who we are farewelling – Bindu George ( Gen Re), Tania Du Plessis ( TAL) and George Vrontas ( Munich Re). Thank you for all your contributions and dedication to the committee.

Also a very warm welcome to the new NSW committee members who have some big shoes to fill – Tonja Nachman (TAL), Kieran Milne from (MJM Risk Management) and Anusha Jayatalake from SwissRe.

The end of year event was hugely successful and we will have a similar event this year in early December.  I received a lot of comments on the theme so I will share some of our key themes below:

“We look to 2017 to seek a courageous year where the Industry and each and everyone of us can show adaptability and make a difference. The big call outs for us are to meet a customer need, communicate and engage in a simple and social context.  We need to have simple messaging and products, empowered by efficient customer centric services. What is holding us back….how do we create a movement beyond policy making and demonstrate the need and value of what life insurance provides…”

Be present, participate and be part of creating a movement in attending the sessions and paving the way forward through thought leadership.

ALUCA VICTORIA SUB-GROUP

We had a good response to the member feedback survey we ran. The VIC ALUCA members were asked to give their opinion on seminars sessions for this year. They told us that top of mind for them was The Life Code of conduct and other legislative issues, Behavioural Economics and Product design and viability updates. They also gave us some great ideas for speakers and we will be using this feedback to help plan the events for the rest of the year.

We have our first educational seminar locked in for Thursday the 16th of March, featuring Rob Aurbach. Rob will be presenting on “Recalibrating resilience”. Resilience is a skill which can help all of us face daily challenges in both our work and home lives. The event is free for ALUCA members and is being hosted by Turks Legal at their Collins street building. Members will also have the opportunity to network and enjoy a yummy breakfast.

Finally we have started planning for the Victoria Mini-ALUCA. This will be held in October and we will be looking to explore some in-depth topics that our members told us were important to them. Updates to follow soon.

ALUCA WESTERN AUSTRALIA SUB-GROUP

In WA the committee’s planning efforts are being centred around what our community wants.  We are looking at crafting 2017 activities to meet what our people called out for in our survey late last year.

Our March event kicks off the year with Dr Gerbauer who will be sharing her insights into eye conditions.  Dr Gerbauer is very highly recommended and has worked with us to create the perfect agenda for the session.

This year we are also taking on board some of the inspiration from the ALUCA Board and other states by putting together an unmissable free event in May.  We would ask the WA community to put the word out amongst all their connections and get them along to this event. They will witness a great speaker along with the benefits of building their network with ALUCA in WA.

As always, we are busily putting together our annual triple event for August time.  So, as always there is lots on the go and great stuff to come over the next year.  Watch this space.

ALUCA REHAB SUB GROUP

The first Rehab seminars for the year were held in Sydney on April 3rd and 10th and in Victoria on April 5th. These sessions were specifically designed for rehabilitation consultants operating in the life insurance industry. We will also be releasing dates for our Brisbane rehabilitation seminar shortly.

The feedback from all sessions held has been really strong. Participants really enjoyed being able to discuss current practices and ongoing strategies for assisting claimants to recover and return to health and work. These specialised Rehabilitation seminars have been developed to provide a platform for education and claims rehabilitation knowledge sharing in the life industry. We will provide more details in the winter edition of ReB.
